Child Relief Sponsorship: World Vision, etc.?
Anyone ever do the child sponsorship through World Vision? For a number of years, I sponsored a couple children at a time, in Africa, through them, for a buck a day, a child. Then I started hearing about religious and political indoctrination, and stopped. I have gathered over the years that a lot of the locals over there are very against it, too. Obviously they just don't want help from those organizations that would compromise their culture and heritage, and that seemed/-s totally understandable to me. I wonder what other options there are out there, though...
My parents also sponsored an El Salvadorian boy named Ricardo who either got killed in the war down there, or just went awol, I just don't know....
I would certainly like to do this again, if it were 100% ethical. Any ideas?
I wish I could reply to this with a positive answer but I encountered the same. Sponsored a girl from Kenya for about a year or so, but forced to stop due to the same reasons you mention up there Vin. I also knew a guy working in this area, not with World Vision, but a similar organisation, who quit due to unethical practices, funds not going where they should etc... An alternative solution, Im not aware of unfortunately...
