The Anti-Fur Trade Thread3. Tell GUESS to Stop Selling Fur
Let clothing retailer know that cruelty to animals is always out
of fashion
Leading fashion retailers like J.Crew, Jones Apparel, Polo Ralph
Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, and Ann Taylor have all made the
compassionate decision to go fur-free. So the question is, what
keeps GUESS behind the style curve supporting animal abuse and
torture?
The majority of fur-bearing animals are raised on fur mills in
wire cages stacked in long rows. Large mills hold up to 100,000
animals. Trapped in cages, wild animals like mink, chinchilla,
raccoon, lynx and foxes are removed from their natural habitat
and denied their most basic natural behaviors. After a lifetime
of imprisonment, they are killed painfully. So as not to damage
the animals' valuable pelts, farmers commonly break their necks
or insert an electrified rod in the anus or vagina, literally
frying animals from the inside out.
The millions of fur-bearing animals caught in the wild fare no
better. Many are caught in spring traps that smash bone and
crush muscle and hold animals in place until a trapper comes
along to kill them. This can take days, during which time
trapped animals linger in excruciating pain without food or
water and are vulnerable to attacks by predators. About one
quarter of trapped animals escape by chewing their own limbs
off. Many "trash" animals also die in traps, including companion
dogs and cats and non-target wildlife (some that are
endangered).
By now, GUESS executives should know that most consumers are
appalled that they continue selling fur. IDA's Southern
California Campaign Coordinator Bill Dyer joined other activists
on Wednesday, May 9th at a demonstration outside of the GUESS,
Inc. annual shareholders' meeting in Beverly Hills to let the
company know that selling fur tarnishes their "All-American"
image and will cost them business. If you think GUESS should get
with the times and stop selling the products of cruelty, let
them know.
What You Can Do:
"Take Action" to politely urge GUESS to stop selling fur
(

or letter to the company (www.guess.com/CustomerCare/Help.aspx).
Thank you Vin-Pol for taking action against the cruel fur industry.
